The asthenosphere is the second layer in Earth's mantle. It is between lithosphere and mesosphere. It is considered the "plastic" layer of the mantle because pieces of lithosphere move on the asthenpshere. This layer is made from solid, slow moving rock and can be around 250 km wide. Seismic velocity is weak in the asthenosphere.
